Roman Camp 2012

The Romans came to Chester again this year, with an excellent and interesting camp in Grosvenor Park again. Unfortunately the weather was cold, wet, and miserable on the Sunday,  which made me think 'How did Romans cope with the British climate?' So I asked some of them the question, and got the following answers: - Roman troops this far north in the empire were allowed trousers and woollen socks, animal skin and woollen capes to protect their armour, and they would have had braziers for keeping warm in their tents. Also, the Romans deployed a lot of Celtic and German auxiliaries in Britain, who would have been used to colder weather. So now I know.
