Along the Canal Pt III

At the north-westernmost point of the City Walls the Shropshire Union Canal meets the River Dee, and there is a unique site in canal terms. Designed by Thomas Telford, in the background of these photos, you can see the dry dock (for painting and repairing narrow boats), and the Roving Bridge, which was to enable horses pulling narrow boats to cross from one side of the canal to the other without having to have their harnesses removed.
