Little Roodee

The name for the area covered by the race course is the Roodee, from 'rood', meaning cross, and a corruption of 'eye', because the area of land is shaped like an eye. Next to the Roodee is a smaller, similarly shaped piece of land known as the Little Roodee. Currently used as a car park, round about now it is scheduled for it's annual weeks closure so that a funfair can be held on it in conjunction with May Races.
