Waitrose
Waitrose opened a full-sized store in Chester in November 2014, and I have been waiting to see whether it lived up to its' reputation of increasing property prices in the area. I was also hoping the copper cladding would develop verdigris, but so far I have been disappointed on both counts.

Becnicks
Sadly, Becnicks Wonder Emporium in Brook Street has closed its' doors. They are going to carry on trading, though, both online, https://www.becnickswonderemporium.com, and through pop-up events, the first one of which is at Hoole Community Centre on the 5th March. Join their mailing list for more information.

Hanky Panky Pancakes
Over on Commonhall Street Hanky Panky Pancakes seems very popular. They have a definite seaside and light-hearted theme going on, which makes you feel a million miles away on a cold, wet February day. I guess they will do well on Shrove Tuesday.

Hurricane Doris - the clear up
It was good to watch the clear up after Hurricane Doris. Everyone pulled together to shop off the top branches to allow cars to get in and out, then the council turned up with chainsaws and tractors. Once they got going it took about an hour and a half to clear everything away, and several local families took away the wood for their woodburning stoves. The van, which had its' windscreen smashed and bonnet caved in, was towed away the next morning.

Hurricane Doris
Hurricane Doris hit today, and three trees came down in Shavington Avenue, one after the other . If you look closely in the first photo you can see the second tree beginning to fall. The red car that has just pulled into the doctors surgery was very narrowly missed by the first tree, and the van appears to have suffered only scratches and a damaged wing mirror. Lucky escapes all round.
Scuba Diving
Chester has a thriving Sub Acqua Club, who meet at the City Baths every Wednesday evening. You can go for a free try dive, as long as you phone and arrange it first. More about them at http://chestersubaquaclub.co.uk
