Cathedral Shop

First there was a shop in the Cathedral, then there wasn't (because it didn't make enough money), now there is again. Following a refurbishment, a slightly less cluttered Cathedral shop has emerged, with (my favourite item!) border collie glove puppets. What these have to do with the Cathedral is anyone's guess, but they are very cute...

Clewlows

Over in Nantwich is Clewlows, a high quality butchers. They also happen to make some of the best pies around, and I can thoroughly recommend their pork pies, which have won awards. If you have ever bitten into a pork pie that resembled a nasty lump of rubber, think again. These are at the other end of the spectrum, melting, delicious, and meaty. If you can catch them warm just out of the oven, even better. Mmm......

Cheerbrooks

On the road out to Nantwich is a farm shop, Cheerbrooks. Forced to diversify by the poor returns from farming, they now have a excellent farm shop and cafe, where you can get a good lunch sourced very locally. Find out more at http://www.cheerbrook.co.uk/

Wirral Viking Artefacts

As well as dressing and behaving like vikings, the Wirhalh Skip Felag make and display jewellery and other artefacts from the period.

Civic Flowers

All around Chester this summer there have been beautiful flower displays over railings and in window boxes. Congratulations to whoever organised them - I think you did a really good job this year, whoever you are!

Wirral Vikings

The Wirral peninsula was once a Viking stronghold, with a considerable settlement at Meols. There is now a group of Viking re-enactors who come to show off their skills locally. Town Hall Refurbishment - Waiting Hall

The Waiting Hall looks very little different, just a bit cleaner and brighter than it used to. Either side of the entrance doors are bust of King George V and Sir Horatio Lloyd, Recorder of Chester 1866-1921. There is also the ship's bell from HMS Broadsword, which was associated with Chester until it was sold off to the Brazilian navy.
