Some of them wear silly costumes...

...and some of them wear suits...

...whilst the women go for heels sure to sink into the grass...

Grosvenor Museum - Roman Gravestones

When the city walls were being re-built, many Roman gravestones were discovered, having been used as infill in the walls. In Roman times all burials had to be outside the city walls, and usually lined the main roads out of the city, so that passers by could pay their respects. The tombstones are now on display in the Grosvenor Museum

Chester Cathedral IX - Mallory and Irvine

Cathedral VII - the Elephant in the Choir Stalls

The wooden carvings in the Choir Stalls are beautiful, but the one I like best is this one, an elephant carved by someone who had clearly never seen one, but who had had one described to him. This elephant comes with big eyes, and the legs of a horse.
