Chester Roman Festival VI - Medicine

There was a Roman doctor in attendance at the festival, to attend to the gladiatorial casualties. Some of his instruments were on display.

Tree-Dressing

In honour of Chestival (the series of Chester Festivals), the council has decided to dress some of our trees.

Chester Roman Festival V - Food and Drink

The Festival featured both a typical Roman kitchen and a Taverna, as well as other scenes of domesticity.

Chester Roman Festival IV - Weaponry

Unsurprisingly, there were a great many weapons both on display and in use at the Festival, and if you really wanted to you could kit yourself out as a Roman gladiator.

Chester Roman Festival III - Eagles

From 104 BC onwards, each legion used an aquila (eagle) as its standard symbol. The symbol was carried by an officer known as aquilifer, and its loss was considered to be a very serious embarrassment, and often led to the disbanding of the legion itself. Normally this was due to the fact that any legion incapable of regaining its eagle in battle was so severely mauled it was no longer combat effective.
